DTG vs DTF vs Screen Printing — which print method is right for you?
04 Oct 2026 · by PrintStyle Studio
Choosing a print method changes how your design looks, feels and lasts. Here is a plain-English guide:
DTG (Direct to Garment)
Best for photographic, full-colour designs on 100% cotton. The ink soaks into the fabric, so the print feels soft with no plastic layer. Ideal for 1–25 pieces.
DTF (Direct to Film)
Works on cotton, polyester and blends. Vibrant colours and great on dark garments. Slightly more hand-feel than DTG but very durable across washes.
Screen printing
The classic choice for bulk orders (50+). Very cost-effective per piece and extremely durable, but best for designs with a few solid colours rather than gradients or photos.
Embroidery
Premium, textured finish — perfect for logos, caps and polos. Not suitable for fine detail or large photographic art.
Quick rule: photos & small batches → DTG. Mixed fabrics → DTF. Bulk + simple art → screen. Logos & premium → embroidery.
